Pianos that haven’t been tuned for a while will often be very out of tune. Pitch raises include two tunings (coarse and fine) to bring the piano back to concert pitch (A440). I am also happy to provide historical temperaments and other non-EDO temperaments.

Keys that won't play, broken strings, pedal issues, etc. Prices vary. Estimates available upon request.

Vertical pianos: Vacuum around pedal trapwork and action (interior). Dust cabinet. Clean keys and bench.
Grand pianos: Vacuum around tuning pegs and plate. Dust soundboard (under the strings) and cabinet including pedal lyre. Clean keys and bench.
Marty McGinn has tuned for Neil Young, American Public Media, the Minnesota Historical Society, and the Children’s Theater Company, among others. A pianist of more than 30 years, Marty understands the importance of a well looked after piano. When not tuning pianos he is either playing a piano, reading, or hanging out with his wife, son, and two cats.

I will only know when I show up at your house for your appointment! Lots of variables: condition of piano, maintenance history, environment, etc). If it hasn’t been tuned in a while it will probably need a pitch raise.

Every 6 months to 1 year is advisable. After a pitch raise it may be necessary for a third tuning a few months out to help stabilize.
